Woman Arrested for Allegedly Burning Boyfriend Alive in Bengaluru After ‘Western-Style Proposal’

A disturbing murder case from Bengaluru has shocked residents after a 27-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly burning her boyfriend alive inside her home in Anjananagar. Police say the crime was not a sudden act of rage but appeared to be carefully planned in advance.

Woman Arrested for Allegedly Burning Boyfriend Alive in Bengaluru After ‘Western-Style Proposal’

According to officials from the Byadarahalli Police Station, the accused woman, identified as Prema, invited her boyfriend Kiran to her house on Tuesday afternoon. The two had reportedly been in a relationship for nearly two years and worked together at telecom company Vodafone Idea.

Investigators say Kiran arrived at her residence around 2 pm after she told him she had planned something special for him. She allegedly described it as a “Western-style proposal,” which made the victim believe it was meant to be a romantic surprise.

Police believe that once he arrived, the woman asked him to participate in the proposal ritual. She blindfolded him and tied his hands and legs to a chair. When Kiran reportedly questioned why the ropes were so tight, she reassured him that it was all part of the surprise and claimed it was a trend popular abroad.

What happened next has left investigators stunned.

Police say the woman allegedly removed the victim’s clothes and distracted him before pouring petrol and kerosene over his body. The fuel had reportedly been arranged earlier. Within moments, she set him on fire while he was still tied to the chair.

The flames spread quickly, and Kiran had no chance to escape. He died at the scene.

During the investigation, officers also discovered another disturbing detail — the entire incident had allegedly been recorded on the woman’s mobile phone. Police have seized the device and are examining the footage as crucial evidence.

Initially, the accused attempted to mislead investigators. She told police that she had been inside the bathroom when she suddenly heard a loud noise. When she came out, she claimed, she saw that Kiran had set himself on fire.

However, officers quickly began to doubt her version of events after examining the crime scene.

Deputy Commissioner of Police DL Nagesh said the case initially appeared to be a suicide but further investigation revealed signs of murder.

Police later discovered that the petrol used in the crime had been arranged by the accused herself. Investigators also noted that the victim had arrived on a bike carrying only a bag and had not brought any flammable material with him, which contradicted the suicide claim.

Further questioning revealed that the couple had frequent arguments in recent months. Investigators say the woman believed that Kiran had been avoiding her, which may have caused tension between them.

However, police say they are still exploring other possible motives behind the crime and have not ruled out the possibility that someone else may have been involved.

Senior officers including ACP Ashok and Inspector Bhaskar visited the crime scene soon after the incident. A murder case has been registered, and forensic teams are examining evidence collected from the house.

Police say the investigation is still underway as they try to piece together the full sequence of events behind one of the most shocking crimes reported in the city this year.
