Captain Ashok Kharat MMS Scandal: In a shocking case that has sent ripples across Maharashtra, police have arrested a Nashik-based self-proclaimed astrologer accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting women under the guise of spiritual rituals. The arrest came after a 35-year-old woman filed a complaint, alleging that the accused had been exploiting her for months by luring her with promises of solving personal problems through पूजा-पाठ and occult practices.
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly gave her intoxicating substances during ritual sessions, leaving her in a vulnerable state. He then sexually assaulted her and later used fear and psychological pressure to keep her silent. Investigators say the accused often claimed to possess supernatural powers and threatened victims with dire consequences, including harm to their families, if they refused to comply.
As the investigation progressed, police uncovered disturbing evidence that pointed to a much larger pattern of abuse. During a search operation, officials recovered a pen drive containing explicit video clips. Preliminary findings suggest that the videos involve at least 58 different women, raising serious concerns about the scale of the crime. Authorities believe hidden cameras were installed inside the accused’s office to secretly record these acts without the victims’ knowledge.
Police sources revealed that the accused targeted women facing emotional, marital, or financial distress. He would gain their trust by presenting himself as a highly skilled astrologer capable of resolving their issues. Once inside his premises, victims were allegedly drugged, manipulated, and subjected to repeated exploitation. The use of fear, superstition, and psychological control appears to have been central to his method.
Given the gravity of the case, the Maharashtra government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to ensure a thorough and unbiased probe. The SIT is currently examining digital evidence, financial transactions, and possible links to other individuals who may have been involved or aware of the activities. Officials have also begun scrutinizing the accused’s properties across the state.
