A shocking incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district has left the local community shaken after a man allegedly murdered his former wife and attacked her friend with acid. The brutal attack took place in the Azizganj area under the Kotwali police station limits and has sparked serious concern among residents.
According to police officials, the victim, identified as 31-year-old Aarti, had been living separately from her husband Manmohan Pandey after the couple’s divorce. Authorities said the accused arrived at her residence on Wednesday evening, allegedly with the intention of confronting her.
Police said Pandey reached Aarti’s house wearing a mask and knocked on the gate. When Aarti’s friend Brijdeep opened the gate, the accused allegedly began his attack. Investigators said he first threw colour on Brijdeep, possibly to distract him, and then splashed acid on his face.
Brijdeep later told reporters that he screamed in pain after the acid attack. Hearing the commotion outside, Aarti rushed out of the house to see what had happened. At that moment, the accused allegedly attacked her with a knife and slit her throat in a brutal assault.
The violent incident quickly escalated into a scuffle between Pandey and Brijdeep. During the struggle, both men sustained serious injuries. Local residents rushed to the scene after hearing the commotion and informed the police.
All three injured individuals were taken to a nearby hospital. Doctors declared Aarti dead upon arrival, while Pandey and Brijdeep are currently undergoing treatment for their injuries. Medical officials said Brijdeep suffered acid burns along with injuries from the scuffle.
Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into the incident. Officers are examining the circumstances leading to the attack and questioning witnesses in the area. Authorities believe personal disputes following the couple’s divorce may have played a role in the crime, though the exact motive is still under investigation.
