An MBA student from Indore was allegedly strangled to death by her boyfriend after a dispute over marriage, in a case that has shocked the city and raised troubling questions about obsession and mistrust in relationships.

The 24-year-old woman’s body was found in a rented flat in the Dwarkapuri area of Indore on January 13 after residents alerted police about a foul smell coming from the apartment. When officers broke open the locked door, they discovered her lying naked on a bed. Rope marks were visible around her neck, and preliminary findings indicated she had been strangled. Investigators believe the body was several days old at the time of recovery.
The flat had allegedly been rented by her boyfriend, identified as Piyush Dhamnodiya, who studied with her. Police later tracked him down and arrested him from Mumbai.
According to officials, the woman had been reported missing by her father on February 11. He told police that he had dropped her near the Collector’s office a day earlier, but she never returned home. As investigators examined the missing complaint, they linked it to the unidentified body recovered from the Dwarkapuri flat. Identification later confirmed it was the missing student.
During questioning, Dhamnodiya reportedly told police that he had been in a long-term relationship with the woman. However, disagreements over marriage had led to frequent arguments. Family resistance and personal insecurities allegedly strained their relationship.
Police said the couple met at the rented flat on the day of the incident to resolve their differences. They were intimate, but another argument broke out over marriage. In a fit of rage, the accused allegedly strangled her using a rope and tied her up.
After the killing, police claim he remained inside the flat for some time before locking it and fleeing Indore. He allegedly travelled to Panvel in Maharashtra, stayed overnight at a hotel, and attempted tantric rituals in his room, claiming he was trying to call back the woman’s spirit. He later moved to Mumbai and reportedly spent the night travelling in local trains.
Officials further stated that he carried the woman’s mobile phone with him and later destroyed it in Maharashtra, allegedly in an attempt to eliminate evidence.
Investigators also revealed that the accused suspected the woman of speaking to other men through mobile applications. This suspicion, fuelled by insecurity and mistrust, allegedly caused repeated disputes between them.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Krishnalalchandani confirmed that the accused has been arrested and is being questioned. Police are examining digital evidence, call detail records, and forensic findings to piece together the sequence of events.
Earlier, the victim’s father alleged that his daughter had been under severe stress after obscene photographs and videos of her were circulated online. He claimed she was being blackmailed and pressured to pay the accused’s college fees. These allegations are also under investigation.
The case continues to unfold as authorities analyse electronic data and forensic reports. The tragic death of a young MBA student has left Indore shaken, underscoring the devastating consequences of toxic relationships, unchecked anger, and digital exploitation.
Further investigation is underway.
