In a deeply disturbing incident that has shaken Punjab’s Bathinda district, a woman has been arrested for allegedly poisoning her two minor children to death. The tragedy unfolded quietly over two weeks before suspicious villagers stepped forward, prompting police action and a shocking confession.

The case emerged from the Phool area of Bathinda, where the sudden deaths of two siblings initially raised eyebrows but did not immediately lead to a formal complaint. Fifteen days ago, eight-year-old Sukhpreet Kaur died under circumstances that villagers later described as suspicious. Before the community could fully process the loss, her six-year-old brother, Fatehveer, passed away on Friday night.
The back-to-back deaths of two young children in the same household unsettled residents. Early Saturday morning, a group of villagers approached the Punjab Police at Phool police station, demanding a thorough investigation into the matter. Their concerns pushed authorities to act swiftly.
According to police officer Manoj Kumar, the investigation quickly revealed disturbing details. He stated that the mother, identified as Jassi Kaur, had allegedly hatched a conspiracy and poisoned both children by mixing rat poison into their food. During questioning, she reportedly confessed to the crime.
Police further allege that the act was not carried out alone. Investigators believe Jassi Kaur conspired with her sister, Moto Kaur, and another individual, Lakhi Singh. Both Jassi Kaur and Moto Kaur have been arrested, while the role of Lakhi Singh remains under investigation. Authorities are examining phone records and gathering statements from locals to establish the full chain of events.
Preliminary reports suggest that the accused may have been involved in an extramarital affair, which investigators suspect could have been a possible motive. However, police have not officially confirmed the exact reason behind the alleged crime and maintain that the investigation is ongoing. The bodies of both children have been sent for post-mortem examinations to scientifically determine the cause of death and strengthen the case.
The incident has left the village in shock. Residents described the children as innocent and lively, making the allegations even harder to accept. Many gathered outside the police station demanding strict action and transparency. Community elders have urged authorities to ensure that justice is delivered without delay.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code related to murder and criminal conspiracy. Officials have assured that the matter will be handled with seriousness and that anyone found guilty will face strict legal consequences.
