Uttar Pradesh’s New Assembly Building to Rise on Sahara City Land

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh – The city is set for a remarkable transformation as the state government prepares to construct a new legislative assembly building on the historic Sahara City land. This development comes after careful planning and high-level approval, signaling a new chapter in Lucknow’s urban landscape.

Uttar Pradesh’s New Assembly Building to Rise on Sahara City Land

The land, originally part of Sahara City in Gomti Nagar, covers 245 acres, with 170 acres controlled by the Lucknow Municipal Corporation and 75 acres by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA). After Sahara India’s financial collapse, both authorities took possession of their respective portions, paving the way for this high-profile government project.

The state had initially been seeking 200 acres for the new assembly complex. With the acquisition of Sahara City land, this requirement has been more than met. The site has been surveyed meticulously, and the report has already been submitted to the government. Officials confirmed that LDA has started the process of appointing consultants to design and plan the new assembly, marking the formal beginning of development activities.

Sahara City, once the epitome of Suprabhat Roy’s luxurious vision, was known for its grandeur. The area featured the Sahara Shri mansion, often referred to as the White House, along with guest pavilions, a helipad, private cinemas, artificial lakes, and lush gardens. During its prime, the estate hosted a galaxy of celebrities, including Bollywood legends like Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty, Dharmendra, and Govinda, as well as top cricketers and prominent politicians.

Analysts say the choice of Sahara City land carries symbolic significance. Where once luxury and private power were concentrated, the legislature will now serve as a beacon of governance and democratic values. The new assembly is expected to combine modern architectural standards with Lucknow’s cultural heritage, creating a landmark that reflects both progress and tradition.

The approval of this land marks a historic moment for Uttar Pradesh. From a lavish private estate to the center of democratic governance, Sahara City is poised to undergo a transformation that blends legacy, luxury, and leadership. With surveys complete and consultants on board, the state is moving forward with a project that is expected to become an iconic symbol of governance in Lucknow.
