Mohali was shaken by a brutal crime on Monday night after the wife of former Punjab Additional Advocate General, Krishan Goyal, was found murdered inside their residence in Phase-5. The victim, 65-year-old Ashok Goyal, was allegedly strangled by robbers who broke into the house and fled with cash and valuables.
The shocking incident has raised serious concerns about safety in one of the city’s well-known residential sectors.
Robbers Strike When Family Was Away
According to police sources, no other family member was present in the house at the time of the crime. Krishan Goyal, a senior advocate who practices at the Debt Recovery Tribunal, was in Muscat, Oman, visiting his daughter when the robbery took place.
The attackers appear to have taken advantage of the empty house to carry out the crime. Investigators believe the robbery was carefully planned, as multiple rooms in the house were found ransacked.
Domestic Help Found Tied, Body Discovered in Morning
The crime came to light on Tuesday morning when a house help arrived for work and discovered Ashok Goyal’s body inside the house. Another domestic worker was found tied to a chair, indicating that the robbers had restrained her to prevent any resistance or calls for help.
The tied domestic help was later freed and is being questioned by the police to reconstruct the sequence of events.
House Ransacked, Cash and Valuables Missing
Police said all rooms in the house were searched by the criminals, and several valuable items were stolen. While the exact amount of cash and jewellery taken is still being assessed, early indications suggest a significant theft.
Krishan Goyal also runs his legal office from the first floor of the same building, which is now being examined as part of the investigation.
Police and Forensic Teams Begin Investigation
Senior police officers reached the crime scene soon after the incident was reported. A forensic team was called in to collect fingerprints, DNA samples, and other physical evidence from different parts of the house.
CCTV footage from the area is also being reviewed to identify the suspects and track their movements before and after the crime.

The murder has left residents of Phase-5 and surrounding areas deeply disturbed. Many locals say the incident highlights the growing concern over targeted robberies in upscale residential neighborhoods.
