Tarn Taran Court Orders Early Morning Release of Kanchanpreet Kaur, Sparks Joy Among Akali Cadre

In an unprecedented early morning judgment, the Tarn Taran district court ordered the release of Kanchanpreet Kaur from police custody at 4 AM on Sunday, triggering a wave of celebrations among Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders and supporters gathered outside the court complex.

The late-night courtroom drama unfolded under the supervision of Judicial Magistrate Pankaj Verma, who announced the verdict after nearly eight hours of arguments and procedural delays.

Night-Long Proceedings End in Release Order

The proceedings began on Saturday evening after the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the police to produce Kanchanpreet in judicial custody and to wait for her legal team until 8 PM.

However, the state government submitted an urgent application from the office of the Advocate General, pushing the start of arguments to around 10 PM. After detailed submissions from both sides, the hearing finally wrapped up at 2 AM, followed by the formal release order two hours later.

Kanchanpreet, flanked by senior SAD leaders including Virsa Singh Valtoha, said she was relieved at the court’s decision and reaffirmed her faith in the judiciary.

Akali Dal Alleges Political Vendetta

Kanchanpreet was arrested by Chabal police on Friday, a move the SAD strongly condemned as politically motivated.
She is the daughter of Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa, a prominent Akali Dal leader who recently contested the Tarn Taran by-election.

SAD leaders maintained that the arrest was “a vengeful act” aimed at silencing political opponents rather than upholding justice.

Controversy Over Alleged ‘Imposter’ Produced in Court

A fresh twist emerged during the proceedings when advocate Arshdeep Kaler, representing Kanchanpreet, along with SAD leaders, alleged that an unidentified woman disguised as Kanchanpreet was presented before the court earlier in the day.

They claimed this was an attempt to mislead the media and create confusion over her whereabouts—a charge that has added further tension to the already politically charged atmosphere in Tarn Taran.

Kanchanpreet Set to Enter Zila Parishad Election Fray

Shortly after the verdict, senior leader Virsa Singh Valtoha announced that Kanchanpreet Kaur will contest the upcoming Zila Parishad elections from the Kasel zone, indicating her continued involvement in district-level politics despite the controversy surrounding her arrest.

The dramatic late-night hearings, the early morning verdict, and the political allegations surrounding the case have turned Kanchanpreet Kaur’s release into one of the most talked-about developments in Tarn Taran’s recent political landscape.
As the Zila Parishad elections approach, all eyes will be on how this verdict shapes the region’s political narrative in the coming weeks.
