A Chilling Murder in Lucknow’s PGI Area
Lucknow Renu Yadav Murder Case: — In a shocking revelation, police have confirmed that the brutal murder of 45-year-old Renu Yadav in Babu Khera, PGI area, was not the work of intruders but her own son. The accused, identified as Nikhil Yadav, a BA student, has been arrested for killing his mother over mounting debts from online gaming and betting.
How the Crime Unfolded
According to police officials, Nikhil was deeply addicted to online gaming and had lost significant amounts of money. Records revealed that he had made transactions worth more than ₹50 lakh through gaming platforms. To repay his debts, he had even taken loans, but lenders began pressuring him for recovery.
On the day of the incident, Nikhil allegedly stole his mother’s jewelry from the house. When he feared that she might have discovered the theft, he attacked her. Police said he used a screwdriver to stab her in the neck and chest, and later struck her with a gas cylinder to ensure her death.
A Failed Cover-Up
After committing the crime, Nikhil attempted to mislead both his family and the police. He informed his father and maternal uncle that unknown intruders had broken into the house and killed his mother. He repeated the same story to the police, trying to portray it as a case of robbery and murder.
However, CCTV footage and mobile location data exposed his lies. The cameras captured him leaving on a bike, while his phone’s location data confirmed his movements. Following the crime, Nikhil fled to Fatehpur by train, but the police tracked him down and arrested him.
Police Investigation and Recovery
During interrogation, Nikhil confessed to the crime. Police recovered the screwdriver and the gas cylinder used in the attack, along with the stolen jewelry. DCP South Lucknow, Nipun Agarwal, confirmed the details in a statement, calling the case a tragic reminder of the dangers of unchecked online gaming addiction.
The Dark Side of Online Gaming
This chilling incident highlights the growing menace of online gaming and betting addiction among youth in India. Experts warn that easy access to digital games, coupled with real-money transactions, is pushing many young people into financial ruin and, in extreme cases, violent crime.
