The Election Commission of India on Monday announced the schedule for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The polls will be conducted in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with counting of votes scheduled for November 14.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar shared details during a press conference, highlighting that the elections will be conducted with full transparency, strict monitoring, and a commitment to ensuring peaceful voting.

Over 7.4 Crore Eligible Voters in Bihar

According to the CEC, a total of 7.42 crore voters are eligible to cast their ballots in Bihar. Of these, 3.92 crore are male voters and 3.5 crore are female voters. Notably, around 14 lakh citizens will be voting for the first time, while 4 lakh senior citizens are also included in the voter list.

At least 14,000 voters in Bihar are above the age of 100, reflecting the state’s strong democratic participation across generations.

Polling Stations and Security Measures

To facilitate smooth polling, the Commission is setting up 90,712 polling stations across Bihar. Kumar emphasized that security arrangements will be stringent, with clear directions issued to the administration to adopt a “zero tolerance” policy towards any form of violence.

“There is no scope for intimidation of voters or candidates. The Commission has ensured that every citizen will be able to cast their vote in a safe environment,” the CEC stated.

Byelections on November 11

In addition to the Assembly elections in Bihar, the Election Commission also announced byelections for eight assembly seats across the country, including Punjab’s Tarn Taran constituency, scheduled for November 11.
