Verka Prices Slashed to Pass on GST Relief

Chandigarh, September 18 — In a move set to bring relief to households across Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday announced that Verka will reduce the prices of its popular dairy products from September 22, following the Centre’s GST 2.0 reforms.

Verka, a state-backed farmers’ cooperative and one of Punjab’s most trusted dairy brands, is passing on the benefit of lower GST rates directly to consumers.

“This decision ensures that the common man gets real relief from GST reforms. Verka has been the pride of Punjab and today it is once again standing strong with the people,” said CM Mann.

Major Price Reductions Across Dairy Range

Under the revised pricing structure, several Verka staples will become more affordable:

  • Ghee: Cheaper by ₹30–35 per litre/kg
  • Table Butter: Reduced by ₹30 per kg
  • Unsalted Butter: Reduced by ₹35 per kg
  • Processed Cheese: Cheaper by ₹20 per kg
  • Milk (Standard, Toned, Double Toned): Reduced by ₹2 per litre
  • Paneer: Reduced by ₹15 per kg
  • Ice Cream (gallons, bricks, tubs): Reduced by ₹10 per litre

The CM emphasized that this price reduction will directly help families at a time when rising food costs have become a challenge for many.

Boost for Farmers and Consumers Alike

While consumers will welcome the reduced costs, the government assured that farmers’ interests will not be compromised. Verka, being a farmers’ cooperative, plays a dual role—supporting rural livelihoods while ensuring affordable nutrition for urban households.

“This balance between affordability for people and fair returns for farmers is what makes Verka unique. These reforms will boost trust in cooperative brands and strengthen Punjab’s dairy sector,” the Chief Minister added.

Why GST 2.0 Matters

The Centre’s GST 2.0 reforms lowered tariffs on several essential items, including dairy products. Punjab is among the first states to translate these reforms into tangible consumer benefits. By reducing dairy prices, Verka sets an example of how GST savings can be effectively passed on to the public instead of being absorbed by companies.

Starting September 22, Verka products will become significantly cheaper as the cooperative slashes prices in line with GST 2.0 reforms. With reductions across milk, ghee, butter, cheese, paneer, and ice cream, the decision is set to bring much-needed relief to families across Punjab while also showcasing the government’s commitment to fair pricing and farmer welfare.
