Washington / London, September 18: US President Donald Trump on Thursday underscored his strong relationship with India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting recent birthday greetings and ongoing cooperation between New Delhi and Washington.
Speaking at a joint press conference with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump described Modi as a close friend and praised his leadership.
“I’m very close to India. I’m very close to the Prime Minister of India. Spoke to him the other day, wished him a happy birthday. We have a very good relationship,” Trump said.
Birthday Call Strengthens Personal Bond
Trump revealed that he personally called PM Modi to extend warm wishes on his 75th birthday. In a post on Truth Social, the US President lauded Modi for doing a “tremendous job” and also expressed gratitude for India’s support in efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
“Just had a wonderful phone call with my friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I wished him a very Happy Birthday! He is doing a tremendous job. Narendra: Thank you for your support on ending the War between Russia and Ukraine!” Trump wrote.

In a reciprocal gesture, PM Modi acknowledged Trump’s greetings with a message on X (formerly Twitter), where he referred to the US President as “my friend.” Modi reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing the India-US Comprehensive and Global Partnership and expressed support for Trump’s peace initiatives on Ukraine.
“Thank you, my friend, President Trump, for your phone call and warm greetings on my 75th birthday. Like you, I am also fully committed to taking the India-US Comprehensive and Global Partnership to new heights,” Modi posted.
