CP Radhakrishnan Takes Oath at Rashtrapati Bhavan

Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan was officially sworn in as the 15th Vice President of India on Friday. The oath-taking ceremony was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office.

Dressed in a red kurta, Radhakrishnan took the oath in English, invoking the name of God. The brief yet significant ceremony marked the beginning of his tenure as the country’s second-highest constitutional authority.

PM Modi Congratulates CP Radhakrishnan on Taking Oath as Vice President

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) after the swearing-in ceremony of CP Radhakrishnan, calling him a dedicated public servant who has devoted his life to nation-building, social service, and strengthening democratic values. Modi, who attended the event at Rashtrapati Bhavan, wished Radhakrishnan a successful tenure as the 15th Vice President of India, highlighting his commitment to serving the people and upholding democratic traditions.

Ceremony Attended by Top Leaders

The event witnessed the presence of prominent political leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP President JP Nadda. Former Vice Presidents Hamid Ansari and Venkaiah Naidu also graced the occasion.

Notably, former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, who resigned on July 21 citing health reasons, attended the ceremony — his first public appearance since stepping down.

Election Victory and Transition

Radhakrishnan secured the Vice Presidential seat after defeating the opposition’s joint candidate B Sudershan Reddy by a margin of 152 votes earlier this week. Following his victory, he resigned as the Governor of Maharashtra, a position he had held until Thursday.

In his absence, Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat has been given the additional charge of Maharashtra, as confirmed by an official statement from the President’s office.

Background and Political Journey

At 67, Radhakrishnan brings decades of political experience to the role. A seasoned leader from Tamil Nadu, he has served in various capacities within the BJP and was widely seen as the National Democratic Alliance’s unanimous choice for the constitutional post.

His election came in the wake of a sudden vacancy created by Dhankhar’s resignation, making the transition both swift and significant for the ruling coalition.
