Chandigarh MC Approves Monthly Parking Pass: ₹500 for Cars, ₹250 for Two-Wheelers

A Convenient and Cost-Effective Move

The monthly parking pass will allow unlimited entries and exits, making it easier for residents who frequently use paid parking facilities across the city. Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar informed the House that a large number of citizens had supported the initiative when public suggestions were invited in July.

With parking charges being a growing concern for city residents, the pass is expected to reduce expenses and simplify parking management across Chandigarh.

Other Key Approvals in the MC House Meeting

Apart from the parking pass, the House cleared several important proposals:

  1. C&D Waste Management – The MC gave its nod to a Request for Proposal (RFP) to hand over the operations of construction and demolition (C&D) waste processing to a private company. The civic body will earn royalty revenue from the firm, including a share of profits from products made using recycled waste.
  2. Fire Safety Law Implementation – The House adopted the Haryana Fire and Emergency Services Act, 2022 (Extension to Chandigarh) Act, 2025 with certain relaxations, aimed at strengthening the city’s fire safety measures.
  3. Manimajra Housing Project – Approval was granted for the auction of five plots in Pocket No. 6, Manimajra, for multi-storey group housing projects.
  4. Security Services – The MC will float fresh tenders via the GeM portal for hiring 27 security guards and three supervisors.
  5. Road Sweeping Project – A new tender for GIS-based mechanised and manual sweeping will be floated for southern sectors, including Sectors 31–56, 61, and 63.
  6. Paid Parking Expansion – Free parking areas at Hallomajra, Ram Darbar, and behind Fun Republic, Manimajra will be converted into paid parking facilities for tourist buses.
  7. Compressed Biogas Plant – The House also approved the selection of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) for setting up a segregated organic waste-based compressed biogas (CBG) plant in Chandigarh. This eco-friendly initiative is aimed at reducing landfill pressure and producing renewable energy.
  8. Streetlight Survey – The MC Chief Engineer directed officials to complete the survey of non-functional streetlights within 10 days after councillors raised concerns over poor street lighting in some areas.

A Step Toward Better Civic Services

The approval of the monthly parking pass is being seen as a citizen-friendly initiative, while other key agendas highlight Chandigarh MC’s focus on urban development, safety, and sustainability.

With parking reform, better waste management, and renewable energy projects on the agenda, the city is set to take progressive steps toward smarter governance.
