Chief Minister Naib Saini announces CBI probe

Around 2 am, Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini took to X (formerly Twitter) to declare that the sensitive case will now be investigated by the CBI. He assured that while the state government and police were already carrying out the probe with full transparency, the decision was also made to honour the sentiments of Manisha’s family and villagers.

Calling Manisha “our daughter”, Chief Minister Saini assured that justice will be served and said he was personally monitoring the progress of the probe.

Internet services suspended amid protests

Earlier this week, the state government suspended mobile internet, bulk SMS and dongle services in Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri districts for 48 hours from 11 am on Tuesday. The decision was taken to prevent the spread of misinformation and maintain law and order as villagers grew angry demanding strict action in the case.

How the case unfolded

Manisha, a school teacher, went missing on August 11 after she left school allegedly to inquire about admission in a nursing college. Her body was tragically found in a field in Bhiwani on August 13, triggering shock, grief and widespread outrage.

The villagers began a sit-in and declared that her last rites would not be performed until all the accused were arrested and the investigation was handed over to the CBI.

Demand for justice intensifies

The incident has triggered massive outrage in the area and locals have raised concerns about the safety of women in Haryana. Civil society groups, teachers’ unions and political leaders have extended support to Manisha’s family.
