Kangra Road Accident : A pilgrimage to the sacred Mata Chamunda Devi temple in Himachal’s Kangra district turned into a tragedy on Friday morning when a Mahindra pick-up carrying devotees from Moga, Punjab, met with a fatal accident. The incident occurred near Balley Hotel, Ikku Mod, on the Chamunda–Dharamsala road, leaving four people dead and 25 others injured.

The Fatal Journey Home
According to local police, the group of pilgrims had travelled from Baaghi Ke village in Nihal Singh Wala sub-division, Moga district, to seek blessings at the Chamunda Devi temple. On their return journey, the vehicle veered off the road under yet-to-be-determined circumstances. Initial investigations suggest that 29 people were onboard the ill-fated pick-up at the time of the accident.
Victims Identified
One woman reportedly died on the spot, while three others succumbed to their injuries at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College and Hospital in Tanda. The deceased have been identified as:
- Jagsir Singh (38), son of Varyam Singh
- Paramjeet Kaur (35), wife of Gurmel Singh
- Kiran (35), wife of Sukhjinder Singh
- Sukhjinder Singh (35), son of Parkash Singh
All hailed from Baaghi Ke village, Moga.
Condition of the Injured
The injured, including the driver Nirbhay Singh (34) and conductor Angrej Singh (38), were admitted to Tanda Medical College. Doctors have confirmed that all are out of danger and are receiving medical care.
Police Investigation Underway
Local SHO and senior police officials visited the hospital to record statements from the survivors. Preliminary reports indicate that the group was returning after offering prayers when the vehicle lost control, resulting in the accident. The exact cause is under investigation, and authorities are exploring the possibility of driver fatigue, road conditions, or mechanical failure.
