Punjab Police and Vigilance Bureau raided SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia house in Amritsar and 24 other locations in a major crackdown on drug trafficking. The case ties back to NDPS Act violations and a 2018 STF report.

Amritsar, Punjab — June 25, 2025 : In a massive crackdown on alleged drug-related activities, Punjab Vigilance Bureau and the state police on Wednesday launched a coordinated raid at 25 locations across Punjab, including the Amritsar residence of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia. Punjab’s law enforcement agencies have launched their biggest joint operation in recent years to dismantle drug trafficking networks and trace illegal drug money.
25 Locations Raided, Majithia’s House Among Targets
Of the 25 sites raided, nine were in Amritsar, including Bikram Singh Majithia’s private residence. Authorities have raided 25 sites across Punjab, including nine in Amritsar—one of which is Bikram Singh Majithia’s private residence. They are carrying out the operation as part of an ongoing investigation into his alleged role in a multi-crore international drug smuggling ring that reportedly operated between 2004 and 2014.
The raids follow fresh intelligence inputs and a directive from the Supreme Court earlier this year, ordering Majithia to cooperate with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case. Police sources have confirmed that the raids aim to uncover fresh evidence, including financial records and communication data, possibly linking Majithia to the drug network.
Bikram Singh Majithia Reacts on Social Media
Majithia confronts the vigilance officers in a video posted on his official social media handle. He accused them of trespassing and termed the action as politically motivated harassment by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.
“This is nothing but a witch-hunt. They are misusing state machinery to frame me because they fear my growing support,” Majithia said in the video.
Background of the Case
Majithia was first booked in December 2021 under several serious provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, including:
- Section 25 – Use of premises for the commission of an offence
- Section 27A – Financing illicit traffic and harbouring offenders
- Section 29 – Abetment and criminal conspiracy
The Special Task Force (STF) submitted a report in 2018, claiming that Majithia maintained links with known international drug traffickers and facilitated cross-border drug trade operations for over a decade.
Despite the serious accusations, Majithia continues to assert his innocence and claims that political rivals have fabricated the case to damage his image ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
Supreme Court’s Involvement
In March 2025, the Supreme Court of India directed Majithia to present himself before the SIT in Patiala, citing concerns over his lack of cooperation. The bench observed that full compliance was essential for a fair and transparent probe.
Though several rounds of questioning have taken place since, no chargesheet has yet been filed in the case.
Political Storm Brews
The raids have triggered sharp political reactions across Punjab. While AAP leaders hailed the action as a step toward cleaning up the drug menace, SAD supporters decried the move as an abuse of power.
Speaking to reporters, an AAP spokesperson said, “This is not about politics. It’s about saving Punjab’s youth. No one is above the law—not even a former minister.”
Meanwhile, SAD has announced it will raise the issue in Parliament and the Punjab Assembly, accusing the AAP government of “using drug charges as a political tool.”
