Terror Strikes Pahalgam:, J&K – April 22, 2025: In a shocking act of violence, at least 12 tourists were injured on Tuesday in a terrorist attack at Baisaran, a picturesque meadow in Pahalgam, situated in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The attack has sent shockwaves across the region, especially as Kashmir is experiencing a revival in tourism.

Gunfire at the Meadow: Eyewitnesses Recount Horror
Baisaran, often called the ‘Mini Switzerland of India,’ is accessible only by foot or ponies. On Tuesday morning, a group of tourists had set out to visit the lush green landscape when they were ambushed by unidentified gunmen.
“My husband was shot in the head while others screamed for help,” an injured woman, speaking over the phone to PTI, said tearfully. “We were just enjoying the morning… and then bullets flew past us.”
Locals Step Up in Time of Crisis
In a heartwarming display of humanity, local pony owners rushed to help the wounded, carrying the injured tourists down the steep terrain. Authorities also deployed a helicopter for emergency evacuation.
A doctor at the Pahalgam hospital confirmed that all 12 injured tourists are currently stable, receiving treatment under tight security.
Massive Security Response Triggered
Reacting swiftly, security forces rushed to Baisaran after reports of gunfire emerged. A senior police official confirmed a massive combing operation is now underway to flush out the perpetrators.
Rising Tensions Ahead of Amarnath Yatra
The attack comes at a critical time, with the 38-day Amarnath Yatra set to begin on July 3. The pilgrimage draws lakhs of devotees each year, most of whom travel via the Pahalgam route, making this region a high-security concern.
Kashmir’s Tourism Boom Faces a Setback
This incident has cast a dark shadow over the valley’s tourism sector, which had been showing strong signs of recovery after years of militancy. Hotels in Pahalgam and Gulmarg were reporting record bookings, and this attack could deter potential visitors.
The attack on innocent tourists enjoying Kashmir’s natural beauty is a grim reminder of the fragile peace in the region. While the resilience of locals and the swift response of security agencies prevented a larger tragedy, the need for heightened security, especially ahead of major events like the Amarnath Yatra, is now more urgent than ever.
