NIA Conducts Raids Across Multiple States in Chandigarh Grenade Attack Case

Chandigarh: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted extensive raids in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on Wednesday in connection with the Chandigarh grenade attack case. The case, handed over to the NIA by the Union Home Ministry, has unveiled a transnational conspiracy orchestrated by Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operatives.

The searches targeted premises linked to US-based terrorist Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Passian, and Pakistan-based Harwinder Singh Sandhu, alias Rinda. Raids were carried out in Punjab’s Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Bathinda, and Ferozepur districts, Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district, Uttarakhand’s Rudrapur district, and Chandigarh.

According to an NIA statement, “Incriminating materials, including mobiles, digital devices, and documents, were seized during the searches.” The agency further revealed that the investigation has so far exposed a larger conspiracy involving cross-border recruitment, funding, and logistical support for terror activities.

The case pertains to a grenade attack on a house in Sector 10-D, Chandigarh, on September 9 last year. Two accused, Rohan Masih and Vishal Masih, were earlier arrested in connection with the incident.

The NIA stated that the attack was planned by Harwinder Singh Sandhu and Harpreet Singh, both associated with BKI, targeting a retired police officer. The duo allegedly coordinated the operation by recruiting associates within India, smuggling weapons and other terror hardware into the country, and transferring funds using sophisticated methods, including the dead drop model.

The NIA’s investigations point to a meticulously planned operation where foreign handlers provided on-ground operatives with weapons, funds, and logistical support. The agency has linked the conspiracy to BKI’s efforts to destabilize the region and spread terror.

The seized materials are being analyzed for further leads, and the investigation is ongoing. The raids mark a significant step in dismantling terror networks operating both within and outside the country.

The Union Home Ministry continues to closely monitor the developments as the NIA intensifies its efforts to bring all perpetrators to justice.
