Congress Announces Third List of Candidates for Delhi Assembly Elections 2025

The Congress party has announced its third list of candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections, which are scheduled for February 5, 2025. Dharam Pal Lakra is among the prominent names. Lakra has been given a ticket from the Mundka constituency. A recent entrant to the Congress, Lakra symbolizes the party’s bid to rejuvenate its existence in the capital.

With this list of 16 contestants, the Congress has now released names of 64 out of 70 candidates contesting the Delhi elections. Their other six seats shall soon see the announcement of their contestants.

  16. Gokalpur (SC): Ishwar Bagri (replacing Pramod Kumar Jayant)

The Congress has strategically fielded former Union minister Krishna Tirath from Patel Nagar and councillor Ariba Khan from Okhla. Notable here is that Ishwar Bagri replaces Pramod Kumar Jayant from the Gokalpur (SC) constituency, which says something about party realignment on certain issues.

Earlier this month, the party also declared Mahila Congress chief Alka Lamba as its candidate for Kalkaji, where she is set to challenge Chief Minister Atishi of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

AAP vs Congress vs BJP

While the Congress and AAP have been allies under the INDIA bloc, their paths have diverged in the Delhi elections. The ruling AAP has already announced its candidates for all 70 assembly seats, whereas the BJP has declared its candidates for 59 constituencies, leaving room for potential last-minute announcements.

A three-way battle promises in the Delhi Assembly elections with AAP, Congress, and BJP vying for a huge chunk of the electorate in the city.
