Chandigarh Cold Wave: Chandigarh Suspends Physical Classes for Students Below Class 8

Chandigarh Cold Wave: Amid the prevailing cold wave, the Union Territory Education Department has directed the suspension of physical classes of students up to Class 8 in government, government-aided, and recognized private schools. The education department has ordered this in the interest of safety and well-being in the wake of severe cold.

According to a circular issued by the Director of School Education, online classes will be conducted for students below Class 8 starting at 9:00 am. Schools have also been instructed to adjust staff timings accordingly.

For Class 9 to Class 12, schools can be opened but with changed timings. “Schools can open for higher classes but not before 9:30 am and have to shut before 3:30 pm,” the order added. For pre-board examinations, if decided, schools can start at 9:00 am with suitable adjustment to teachers’ timings.

The new timings and suspension of physical classes will continue until January 11, which will be reviewed further. The Education Department has asked schools to follow the guidelines strictly.

Parents and guardians have welcomed the decision, saying that young children are vulnerable to health issues during the cold wave. However, some expressed their concerns over the effectiveness of online classes due to limited resources in some areas.

This proactive step reflects the commitment and dedication of Chandigarh’s administration towards safe students, providing them with protection while keeping damage to their school education at minimal levels.
