The incident is said to have occurred in the Sonbarsa Panchayat of Kudhani Block, Muzaffarpur. The head of the Panchayat, identified as Mohammad Ghulam Rasool Ansari, is accused of sexually exploiting women from his constituency by promising them access to welfare schemes.

The video, quickly spreading on social platforms, has not been independently authenticated by The Chandigarh News. However, allegations have invited stern criticism on the part of many from the society who claim to have witnessed the Panchayat head indulging in such activities in the past. Earlier, also an audio clip of this same person, in which he was allegedly passing inappropriate comments to a woman, made its way into social networks.

Questioned, Muzaffarpur Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) Vidyasagar said the police have taken note of the viral video and started an inquiry. “We are probing into the authenticity of the video. The accused Panchayat head has denied his involvement. He is saying that this video is not of him. Further action will be taken on the basis of the findings of the probe,” he said.

The incident has not only brought embarrassment to the administration but also raised serious concerns about the misuse of power at the grassroots level. Residents are demanding strict action against those found guilty. This incident has thrown up an urgent need for mechanisms that would ensure the safety and dignity of beneficiaries under government schemes, especially for women in rural areas.
