A new cyber scam is rapidly spreading across social media platforms under the name of a so-called “40-minute viral video.” The trend surfaced soon after the circulation of a controversial 19-minute clip, triggering widespread curiosity among users. Cyber experts and law enforcement agencies have now confirmed that the 40-minute video does not exist and is being used purely as bait to trap unsuspecting users.
The claim suggests that a longer, “full leaked version” of the earlier 19-minute video has been released online. These assertions are being pushed through misleading posts, fake thumbnails, and suspicious links shared on messaging apps and social media platforms. In reality, there is no verified or authentic 40-minute clip available anywhere on the internet.
Cybercriminals are exploiting viral trends to manipulate users into clicking malicious links. Once a user opens these links, their device may freeze or slow down dramatically. In many cases, harmful malware gets installed in the background, allowing fraudsters to access personal data, banking information, and one-time passwords. Several victims have reported unauthorized withdrawals from their bank accounts shortly after interacting with such links.
Digital trend data shows that searches for the fake 40-minute video have surged in states including Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, Delhi, and West Bengal. Authorities warn that simply searching for or clicking on unknown links related to viral content significantly increases the risk of cyber fraud and identity theft.
Cyber Cell officials have categorically stated that the so-called 40-minute viral video is a digital illusion created to deceive users. Haryana NCB Cyber Cell officer Amit Yadav explained that such videos may be entirely fabricated or generated using artificial intelligence tools. He further warned that downloading, viewing, or sharing fake leaked content is a punishable offense under Indian cyber laws.
Legal experts caution that involvement with such content can lead to serious consequences. Individuals found storing or circulating fake or illegal videos may face fines of up to ₹2 lakh and imprisonment of up to three years. Even unintentional sharing can attract legal action if the content violates cyber or privacy laws.
Authorities are urging users to remain vigilant while consuming online content. People are advised to avoid clicking links that promise leaked or exclusive videos, refrain from downloading files from unknown sources, and keep their devices updated with the latest security patches. Enabling two-factor authentication for banking and financial applications is also strongly recommended.
What appears to be harmless curiosity can quickly turn into financial loss, data theft, or legal trouble. The viral 40-minute video is not a source of entertainment but a carefully designed cyber trap. Staying informed, alert, and cautious remains the most effective defense against such digital scams in an increasingly connected world.
