New Delhi: Popular YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani has turned to the Supreme Court, looking to have an FIR filed against him at Guwahati quashed or transferred. The case, which is connected to charges of obscenity on the program India’s Got Latent, also involves popular podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia as a prime accused.
As per News18, Chanchlani has asked the top court to either quash the FIR or transfer it to Mumbai on jurisdictional grounds. The case is to be heard on Friday by a bench headed by Justice Surya Kant and Justice N Kotiswar Singh.
The row is over comments made by Ranveer Allahbadia on YouTuber Samay Raina’s show, which have attracted widespread backlash. Although Allahbadia is the main accused in the case, Chanchlani has also been mentioned in the FIR, which has caused concern among the content creator community.
Chanchlani, who has a huge following online, insists that the charges leveled against him are not justified. His lawyers will probably contend that the case should be tried in Mumbai, where he lives and works, rather than Guwahati.
The case has reignited discussions about content regulation on digital platforms and the legal challenges faced by online creators. With the Supreme Court set to hear Chanchlani’s plea, the outcome of this legal battle could have significant implications for the Indian digital content landscape.
Further developments in the case will be closely watched by the public and the digital creator community alike.
