Weather Update Today: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather forecast indicating significant changes in the northern region’s climate in the coming days. Chandigarh, Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab are expected to experience light to heavy rainfall next week due to two impending western disturbances. Dense fog is also predicted in these areas, particularly during the early morning hours, which may disrupt visibility and affect daily activities.
The IMD reported that while Delhi-NCR has seen a rise in temperatures over the past few days, this trend will soon reverse. Two consecutive western disturbances are expected to influence the region’s weather, bringing significant precipitation and dense fog. Heavy showers are forecasted between January 29 and February 1, and dense fog is likely to reduce visibility, posing challenges for transportation and daily commutes.
These disturbances are expected to significantly impact flight and train operations, a problem already observed in recent weeks due to dense fog in the capital.
The IMD has confirmed the arrival of two western disturbances: the first disturbance will become active on January 29, initiating a spell of rainfall, while the second disturbance is set to follow on February 1, sustaining the rainy conditions in northern states.
While the northern region braces for rain and fog, southern states such as Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh are also expected to receive heavy rainfall in the coming days. Similarly, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh are likely to experience fresh spells of rain between January 29 and February 1, which could result in a drop in temperatures.
Meanwhile, the central region, including Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, is forecasted to witness a slight rise in temperatures by 2–3°C over the next week.
The anticipated weather changes will have widespread effects. Flights and trains operating in and from Delhi may face delays or cancellations due to reduced visibility caused by fog. Farmers in northern and southern states must prepare for rainfall, which could impact ongoing crop cycles. Residents are advised to stay cautious, especially during dense fog hours, to avoid accidents and respiratory issues caused by the cold and damp conditions.
The IMD has urged citizens to stay updated on weather developments and take necessary precautions.
