Jalandhar: 27-year-old US deportee Davinderjit Singh, who returned to his hometown in Punjab’s Phillaur on Wednesday night, has gone missing under mysterious circumstances. His sudden disappearance has left his family and local authorities extremely worried.

Davinderjit Singh, a resident of Landra village, was among the 104 deportees who arrived at the Amritsar airport on Wednesday. He was escorted home by a revenue official and reached home at 10 pm. However, around 5 am on Thursday, he left home on a bike without informing his family and has not been seen since.

His mother Balbir Kaur said, “My son came back last night but looked very worried. Early in the morning, he took his bike and left without saying anything. We have not had any contact with him since then,” she said in a distraught tone.

When he says it is impossible to do so, the family lodges a report of his absence at the Apra police station and local officials, including Naib Tehsildar Sunita Gillan and police officers, visit their home.

Gillan said she is concerned about the case. “It is shocking how a young man who returned after deportation left without any warning. We are actively looking for him and are in touch with the police to find out where he is.”

The family claimed that Davinder Singh left for Dubai two months ago, however he moved to the United States. The circumstances of the deportation and subsequent disappearance are now being investigated.

The authorities have appealed that anyone with information about Davinderjit’s whereabouts should come forward as witnesses and help in the case as efforts are underway to secure his location.
