Chandigarh, September 3: Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will visit flood-ravaged areas of Punjab on Thursday, September 4, to personally review the situation and interact with affected communities. Confirming his visit on Wednesday, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said he would be accompanied by Union Minister of State for Railways and Rajya Sabha MP Ravneet Singh Bittu and BJP state president Sunil Jakhar. The delegation will visit villages and farmlands severely impacted by incessant rainfall and overflowing rivers in recent days.

Earlier in the day, Chouhan held telephonic discussions with Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to gather first-hand information on the extent of devastation. “Today, I discussed the flood situation arising due to heavy rainfall in Punjab with the Governor of Punjab, Chief Minister, and Agriculture Minister, and obtained detailed information,” Chouhan said in an official statement.

Expressing solidarity with the people of Punjab, the Union Minister assured that the Centre would extend all necessary assistance to help the state recover from the crisis. “I will reach Punjab tomorrow morning and meet my brothers and sisters in the flood-affected areas. In this hour of crisis, the Central Government stands firmly with the brothers and sisters of Punjab and will provide all possible assistance,” he added.

The floods have wreaked havoc across districts, submerging villages and damaging vast tracts of farmland at a critical stage of the cropping season. Farmers in Jalandhar, Nakodar, and several other regions have reported heavy losses, with homes partially or completely inundated.

Meanwhile, relief and rescue operations are underway as state and central agencies continue efforts to provide food, shelter, and medical aid to displaced families. The situation remains tense as weather forecasts indicate the possibility of more rainfall in the coming days.

Chouhan’s visit is expected to bring clarity on the scale of central support, including compensation for farmers and long-term measures to strengthen Punjab’s flood management infrastructure.
