Chandigarh: Industrialist Sunil Khanna (62) has emerged victorious as the new president of the prestigious Chandigarh Club, Sector 1, following elections held after an eight-year gap. Sunil Khanna defeated his closest contender, Naresh Chaudhary, by a margin of 128 votes in the keenly contested election.
Khanna, who aligns with outgoing president Sandeep Sahni’s group, secured 1,623 votes, while Chaudhary garnered 1,495. The third candidate, Ramneet Singh Chahal, managed just 104 votes.
Anurag Aggarwal Elected Vice-President
Anurag Aggarwal (54) was elected vice-president with 1,129 votes. His nearest rival, Karan Vir Nanda, received 1,110 votes, while Anurag Chopra polled 973.

Eight executive members were also elected:

- Rohit Suri
- Paramveer Babla
- Rachit Goyal
- Aadesh Joshi
- Vikas Bector

Record Turnout After Long Delay
Of the 7,441 eligible members, 3,292 cast their votes. The election, originally due in 2019, was delayed due to legal challenges and the Covid-19 pandemic. The previous governing body was elected in 2016.
Sunil Khanna’s Vision for the Future
Speaking after his win, Khanna pledged to enhance the club’s facilities and foster a more inclusive environment. “This victory reflects the trust members have placed in us. We are committed to taking Chandigarh Club to greater heights,” he said.
The newly elected team will serve a three-year term, bringing fresh perspectives to one of the city’s most prominent institutions.
