Bengaluru Incident: In a disturbing incident that has once again raised concerns about women’s safety in urban India, a 25-year-old woman was allegedly molested and physically assaulted by a group of four drunk men while shopping for groceries in Bengaluru’s Yellamma Layout near Mylasandra Road in Anekal taluk.

The incident occurred around 5 PM on Sunday and has sparked outrage among locals and social media users alike after details of the attack emerged.
Molestation in Broad Daylight: What Happened?
According to the woman’s police complaint, she was walking to a nearby store to buy essentials when she encountered four men engaged in a drunken brawl. Suddenly, they turned their attention to her—allegedly teasing, abusing, and touching her inappropriately.
“When I resisted, they hit me. I hit one of them back with my leg in defence,” she told police.
The woman, who had moved into the locality just a week prior, said she did not know the accused personally but confirmed that they lived behind her house.
Verbal Abuse and Physical Assault
The complaint details how the situation escalated when she objected to their behavior. The accused reportedly began using vulgar and obscene language, even as she tried to escape. Despite her resistance, the men continued to behave aggressively and physically attacked her.
Displaying remarkable courage, the woman fought back, striking one of the men before contacting her gym trainer for help.
Rescue and Retaliation: Gym Trainer Steps In
Upon being alerted, her gym trainer rushed to the scene and confronted the accused. He managed to rescue the woman and allegedly struck one of the molesters who had misbehaved with her.
A video of the incident has surfaced on social media, although it is yet to be independently verified by authorities.
Police Action: One Arrested, Counters Filed
The Bannerghatta police station confirmed on Monday that one of the accused has been arrested. However, in a surprising development, the arrested man has filed a counter-complaint against the woman and her gym trainer, claiming assault.
“The boy who hit me is in the hospital now. He got injured hitting a gate and has filed a case against us,” the woman said in her statement to the press.
Police say efforts are underway to nab the remaining accused, and additional security has been deployed in the area to maintain peace.
Legal Charges: Sections Invoked
Based on the woman’s complaint, the Bengaluru Police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), invoking the following charges:
- Section 74 – Assault or criminal force with intent to outrage modesty
- Section 351 – Criminal intimidation
- Section 352 – Punishment for assault without grave provocation
- Section 126 – Wrongful restraint
The police have assured that they are closely monitoring the case, and all accused will be brought to justice.
Public Reaction: Outrage and Fear
The incident has caused deep concern among Bengaluru residents, especially women, with many questioning the safety of public spaces even during daylight hours. Activists and women’s rights groups are calling for stricter implementation of law and more street surveillance in outer Bengaluru zones like Anekal and Yellamma Layout.
Conclusion: Another Wake-Up Call
This appalling incident is a grim reminder that women’s safety remains a major challenge in Indian cities. The courage shown by the survivor in defending herself and reporting the crime is commendable. However, it also underscores the urgent need for better policing, faster legal redress, and stronger public awareness to ensure such cases do not recur.
As investigations continue, all eyes are on the Bengaluru Police and the justice system to ensure swift and fair action.
