In a disturbing incident from Rewa district in Madhya Pradesh, a young woman has accused her husband Shivam Sahu of secretly recording her private moments and circulating the videos on social media to pressure her family for dowry. The accused, identified as Shivam Sahu, allegedly used intimate footage to blackmail his wife after her family failed to meet his full dowry demand.

The couple got married on May 10, 2025. According to the complaint filed with the police, Shivam had demanded ₹3 lakh as dowry at the time of marriage. The woman’s parents somehow managed to arrange ₹2 lakh, but they were unable to pay the remaining ₹1 lakh. Soon after the wedding, the harassment reportedly began.
The victim told police that her husband repeatedly forced her to bring the remaining amount from her parents. The emotional pressure gradually turned into threats. During this period, he allegedly recorded several private videos of her inside their bedroom without her knowledge. He also filmed her while she was bathing. Investigators say he later used these videos to blackmail her, warning that he would make them public if his demand was not fulfilled.
Believing that her husband would not stoop to such an act, the woman endured the harassment silently. However, on February 12, the accused allegedly shared one of the bathing videos in multiple WhatsApp groups and across social media platforms. Within minutes, the clip went viral and even reached family groups. The woman came to know about the circulation when her relatives began forwarding the same video to her, asking what had happened. The emotional trauma was immediate and overwhelming.
After the incident, she approached the police in Rewa and lodged a detailed complaint describing the dowry harassment, the secret recordings, and the circulation of the videos. A case was registered, and an investigation was launched. By then, Shivam Sahu had reportedly fled to Mumbai in an attempt to evade arrest.
According to police sources, when he ran out of money in Mumbai, he returned and went directly to his wife’s parental home. There, he allegedly threatened his in-laws with a knife and demanded the remaining dowry amount. The family immediately alerted the police and pretended to arrange the money to keep him engaged. Officers reached the spot in time and arrested him before the situation escalated further.
Police officials confirmed that charges related to dowry harassment, criminal intimidation, and circulation of obscene content have been invoked. Authorities are also examining digital evidence as part of the cybercrime investigation.
The case has once again highlighted the continuing menace of dowry-related abuse and the dangerous misuse of technology for personal exploitation. The victim’s decision to file a complaint ensured swift action, and police have assured that strict legal steps will follow as the investigation continues.
