Diddy Sex Trafficking Trial: Hip-hop mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs faces explosive allegations of sex trafficking and abuse. Witnesses testify to violent incidents and disturbing encounters. Full trial update here.

NEW YORK – May 13, 2025 – Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs appeared in Manhattan federal court this week as his sex trafficking trial began with emotional testimony and disturbing video evidence. The 55-year-old producer and entrepreneur faces five felony counts including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. If convicted on all charges, Combs could face a minimum of 15 years in prison — and possibly life.
The courtroom was filled with tension as graphic and emotional accounts of Combs’ alleged abuse surfaced. The most shocking moment came from Daniel Phillip, a male stripper who told jurors that he had sex with Combs’ then-girlfriend, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, in front of Combs in 2012 and 2013 — incidents that Phillip said were arranged by Combs himself.
Witness Testifies to Violent Hotel Incident
Phillip detailed a terrifying event at a New York City hotel, where he claimed Combs threw a liquor bottle at Ventura, grabbed her by the hair, and dragged her screaming into another room. There, he heard what sounded like Combs shouting and physically assaulting her.
“She literally jumped into my lap and she was shaking — her whole body was trembling. She was terrified,” Phillip told jurors.
Before Phillip took the stand, jurors watched a 2016 surveillance video that showed Combs violently attacking Ventura in a Los Angeles hotel. In the footage, Combs throws Ventura to the floor, kicks her as she tries to enter an elevator, and later drags her belongings down the hallway, leaving her motionless on the ground.
Former Security Guard Speaks Out
The prosecution’s first witness, Israel Florez, a former security guard, testified that he received a call for help during the 2016 hotel altercation. When asked about Ventura’s emotional state, he said simply, “Scared.”
Florez further claimed that Combs tried to bribe him with a stack of cash to remain silent, an offer he declined.
Prosecutors Paint Dark Picture of “Freak Off” Parties
Federal prosecutor Emily Johnson alleged that Combs manipulated women into toxic romantic relationships, coercing them into participating in drug-fueled sex parties — referred to as “Freak Offs” — which were secretly recorded and used for blackmail.
“He viciously attacked women who refused to participate or upset him in any way,” Johnson stated in her opening arguments.
She promised jurors would hear harrowing stories from multiple women who claim they were emotionally and physically destroyed during their time with Combs.
Defense Claims Activities Were Consensual
Defense attorney Teny Geragos countered the prosecution by asserting that the relationships were consensual and part of a “swingers” lifestyle among capable adults.
“Sean Combs is a complicated man, but this is not a complicated case. This is about voluntary choices made by adults in private,” Geragos said.
Another defense lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, acknowledged the 2016 hotel incident but said it followed a heated dispute over infidelity. He further argued that Ventura has a history of domestic violence, suggesting she was not the victim prosecutors claim she is.
Combs’ Family Stands by His Side
Inside the courtroom, Combs was joined by his mother, Janice Combs, and six of his children. Dressed in a beige sweater and khakis, Combs appeared composed. At one point, he smiled and blew a kiss to his children, and left for a lunch break pumping his fist — an apparent attempt to project strength and confidence.
Outside the courthouse, supporters and curious onlookers gathered in droves, capturing the moment on their smartphones.
A Celebrity Trial With Far-Reaching Implications
Once a celebrated figure who helped launch the careers of artists like Notorious B.I.G. and Mary J. Blige, Combs is now at the center of a case that could permanently reshape his legacy.
With at least 50 civil lawsuits already filed against him — including a previously settled one by Ventura — the trial’s outcome will likely send ripples through both the music industry and the legal system.
The prosecution is expected to present more witnesses in the coming days, as Combs’ defense team seeks to cast doubt on their credibility and motives. Geragos summed up the defense’s strategy by telling jurors to “Ask yourself why now? What do they want? For many, the answer is simple: money.”
