Delhi Police Arrests Businessman at IGI Airport
New Delhi: Businessman Samir Modi, the brother of fugitive cricket administrator Lalit Modi, was arrested by Delhi Police on Thursday at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. Officials confirmed that the arrest is linked to a rape case filed against him by his former live-in partner.
According to sources, immigration officials detained Modi as he was preparing to board a flight. A Look Out Circular (LOC) had already been issued against him. After his detention, he was handed over to the police and produced before a local court, which remanded him to one-day police custody. He is expected to appear before the court again on Friday.
Case Registered at New Friends Colony
Police sources revealed that the FIR against Modi was registered at New Friends Colony police station in Southeast Delhi. The complaint was lodged earlier this year by his former partner, who accused him of sexual assault.
An officer familiar with the investigation said that the complainant had also allegedly demanded ₹50 crore to settle the matter. However, the police clarified that the investigation is still underway and all aspects of the case are being examined.
Official Statement and Ongoing Probe
A senior police official stated, “Samir Modi was detained at the IGI Airport after immigration authorities flagged him. He was formally arrested and produced in court. Further investigation is in progress.”
At present, police are verifying the allegations and collecting additional evidence. Authorities have not released further details regarding Modi’s travel plans or his intended destination at the time of the arrest.
