Robin Uthappa EPF Fraud: Shocking arrest warrant issued against former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa for alleged fraud involving employees’ provident fund (EPF) contributions. Uthappa, a director at Centaurus Lifestyle Brands Pvt Ltd, has been accused of deducting provident fund amounts from his employees’ salaries but not depositing the same in their respective accounts.
The Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, Shadakshari Gopal Reddy, said Uthappa’s company would pay damages of ₹23,36,602. The default, it appears, has somehow caused the PF accounts of the workers from not being settled, causing authorities to move against Uthappa.
The warrant was issued on the grounds that Uthappa had failed to obey orders to remit the amount earlier. Authorities have since directed him to pay up the amount by December 27, in the event of which he will be taken into custody. The Pulakeshinagar police in his jurisdiction were directed to enforce the warrant, but could not find Uthappa in his Bengaluru residence since it is said that he along with his family members have been staying in Dubai.
Robin Uthappa EPF Fraud: EPF Commissioner’s Statement
“The company headed by Mr. Uthappa has not deposited the recoverable damages and the amount will be recovered from him,” said PF Commissioner Reddy. The regional office explained that this delay in remittance is highly inconvenient to the employees since they are not getting proper provident fund settlements.
Robin Uthappa: The Cricketer Entrepreneur
Robin Uthappa is also one of the known aggressive batsmen. He played 59 international matches for India, in which he had more than 1,183 runs from ODIs. Uthappa was also a part of the T20 squad of India. He made great contributions during the Indian Premier League too. The list of the teams for which Uthappa played includes the team like Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and Mumbai Indians.
He was a very prominent part of KKR’s championship-winning team in the year 2014 wherein he emerged as the season’s highest run-scorer.
Other Legal Issues
This is in complete contrast to the glorious cricketing career of Uthappa. The Pulakeshinagar police have been instructed to see that the warrant is enforced, and the regional PF office has asked for an early redressal of the situation. It reveals the issues of corporate responsibility and adherence to norms towards the welfare of employees. Now, there is a deadline; everyone is still waiting for Uthappa to respond to all those allegations and settle the dues so that no further legal issues remain.
