The House Oversight Committee, under Republican leadership, has publicly disclosed the complete transcript of Hunter Biden’s closed-door testimony held the previous day. Spanning 229 pages with certain redactions, the transcript highlights a notable disparity between the accusations of criminal conduct repeatedly made by House Republicans against Hunter Biden and his father and the evidence and testimonies made available as part of the impeachment inquiry.
A spokesperson from Hunter Biden‘s legal team conveyed to media the desire for a swift and comprehensive release of the transcript, stating, “This transcript shows why this [investigation] needs to end. They have nothing.”
The deposition, administered by the Oversight Committee and the House Judiciary Committee, both spearheading the impeachment inquiry initiated last year, transpired without the presentation of any evidence by Republicans substantiating allegations of wrongdoing by the president.
Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, issued a statement on Thursday night asserting that Hunter Biden’s testimony “confirms much of our evidence uncovered to date in our impeachment inquiry of President Biden.” However, Comer noted that certain portions of Hunter Biden’s testimony appear inconsistent with statements provided by other witnesses. He emphasized the need for a public hearing to ensure transparency and obtain the truth for the American people.
