Rahul Gandhi Calls BJP ‘Bhrasht Janata Party’, Attacks Its ‘Double-Engine’ Governments

Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, launched a strong political attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday, calling it the “Bhrasht Janata Party” and accusing its so-called double-engine governments of spreading corruption, arrogance, and abuse of power across the country. His remarks come at a time when political temperatures are rising, with major parties sharpening their narratives ahead of upcoming electoral battles.

In a post shared in Hindi, Gandhi said the BJP’s style of governance had failed ordinary citizens. He claimed that under the party’s rule, the lives of the poor, labourers, and the middle class were being treated as mere statistics, while powerful interests continued to benefit. According to him, corruption and misuse of authority have become deeply rooted in the BJP’s political system.

To support his allegations, Gandhi pointed to several high-profile cases from different parts of the country. Referring to the Ankita Bhandari murder in Uttarakhand, he said the brutal killing had shocked the entire nation but questioned whether influential individuals linked to the ruling party were being protected. He argued that the real test of governance is whether the law is applied equally to all, regardless of status or political connections.

Gandhi also cited the Unnao rape case in Uttar Pradesh, saying it showed how criminals could be shielded by political power. He said the country had witnessed how difficult it was for the victim to get justice when those accused enjoyed political backing.

The Congress leader further raised concerns about public safety and health, referring to deaths caused by contaminated drinking water in Indore and similar complaints reported from Gujarat, Haryana, and Delhi. He claimed that unsafe water supplies were creating widespread fear of disease and reflected serious administrative failures. He also mentioned incidents such as children dying from contaminated cough syrup, rats attacking newborns in government hospitals, and roofs collapsing in government schools, calling them consequences of corruption rather than simple negligence.

Environmental damage and infrastructure failures were also part of his criticism. Gandhi alleged that mountains, forests, and natural resources were being destroyed for the benefit of big corporations, leaving ordinary people to suffer pollution, dust, and disasters. He said repeated incidents of bridge collapses, damaged roads, and deadly train accidents showed a pattern of poor governance, where tragedies are followed by official statements, compensation, and photo opportunities instead of real accountability.

Taking aim at the BJP’s “double-engine” slogan, Gandhi claimed the model was designed to serve billionaires rather than the common citizen. He said that instead of speeding up development for everyone, this system had turned into what he described as a “speed of destruction,” hurting families and livelihoods across the country.

Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of corruption and abuse of power, calling it the “Bhrasht Janata Party.” He targeted the party’s double-engine governments, alleging they favor powerful interests over ordinary people. He cited cases such as the Ankita Bhandari murder and the Unnao rape case to question accountability and justice. Gandhi also raised concerns about contaminated water, public health, environmental damage, and collapsing infrastructure, saying these issues reflect deeper governance failures.
