Mohali/Delhi, Aug 26: Popular Punjabi singer Mankirt Aulakh is once again in the news, this time not for his music, but because of a serious security threat. Police have arrested Khudda Jassu resident Harjinder Singh alias Ravinder Singh for allegedly threatening and trying to extort money from the singer.
The accused was arrested at the Delhi International Airport when he was trying to board a flight bound for abroad. Officials revealed that Harjinder has previously stayed in Italy and was planning to flee once again to avoid legal action.

Threatening calls and WhatsApp messages
According to police sources, threats were sent via voice calls and WhatsApp messages to the phone numbers of Aulakh’s management team. The caller, who spoke in Punjabi, not only demanded money but also made direct threats to the singer’s family. Worryingly, the accused also sent photographs of Aulakh’s house and vehicles, further increasing the panic.
A case was registered at the Matour police station on August 21 under Sections 318(5) and 351(2) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS). The police are further investigating the numbers used in the calls and messages to ascertain any possible links to organised gangs.
