Mumbai, India — In a significant political development, Maharashtra BJP Chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule expressed admiration for Shiv Sena Chief Eknath Shinde’s decision to leave the Chief Ministerial selection to the BJP leadership. Shinde, who recently resigned as Chief Minister after the Mahayuti alliance’s landslide victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, stated his commitment to supporting decisions made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Bawankule, addressing a press conference in Nagpur, commended Shinde’s statesmanship and his prioritization of Maharashtra’s development over personal ambition. “I am proud of Shinde. He has clarified his stand on the CM’s post and demonstrated his unwavering commitment to the progress of the state,” he remarked.
Eknath Shinde’s Role as Caretaker CM
Eknath Shinde, who is currently serving as the caretaker Chief Minister, resigned from his position on Tuesday, paving the way for the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance to form a new government. Amid widespread speculation over the next Chief Minister, Shinde emphasized his willingness to collaborate, stating he would not be an obstacle in the decision-making process.
“I have spoken to PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah and conveyed that I will abide by their decision on the CM post,” Shinde said, breaking his silence on the issue.
BJP Lauds Eknath Shinde’s Leadership
Bawankule praised Shinde for his significant contributions to Maharashtra’s development, particularly highlighting his role in the successful completion of the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Expressway.
“Eknath Shinde’s leadership during his tenure as CM showcased the true power of a double-engine government. He prioritized Maharashtra’s progress and demonstrated exceptional administrative skills,” Bawankule added.
He also acknowledged Shinde’s cooperation as an ally, stating, “Shinde has always respected our expectations and accepted our demands for the state’s betterment. His willingness to prioritize collaboration over personal gains sets an example for all leaders.”
Opposition Criticized
In his statement, Bawankule criticized the Opposition’s Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) for attempting to spread rumors and tarnish Shinde’s image. “The MVA contested elections for individual ambitions, whereas the Mahayuti alliance fought for the welfare of 14 crore people of Maharashtra,” he said.
Maharashtra’s Political Landscape
The BJP’s praise for Shinde underscores the strengthening alliance between the two parties as they prepare to finalize the new government. Shinde’s decision to support BJP leadership has been seen as a crucial step in ensuring a unified and stable administration in the state.
With the Mahayuti alliance securing a resounding victory, all eyes now remain on the BJP’s next move regarding the Chief Ministerial post.
