Priyanka Gandhi Slams PM Modi's Lok Sabha Speech as 'Boring' and Full of Political Attacks

PM Modi’s Lok Sabha Speech in the Lok Sabha running for 110 minutes to mark 75 years of the adoption of the Constitution has received sharp reactions from opposition leaders, including Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi.

Priyanka Gandhi took a jibe at the lengthy address by calling the speech a “double period of mathematics” at school, terming it dull and having no new ideas.

“The Prime Minister has not said anything new. It was boring and felt like being transported decades back. I felt sitting in a double math period,” Priyanka Gandhi remarked. She added that even the BJP leaders, including JP Nadda, Amit Shah, and Piyush Goyal, seemed to have difficulty in sustaining their attention during the speech. “Nadda ji was fidgeting till Modi ji looked at him. Amit Shah had his hand on his head, and Goyal ji seemed to be dozing off. I expected something new, something positive, but it was a disappointment,” she quipped.

During his speech, PM Modi launched a pointed critique of the Congress party, particularly over the Emergency imposed in 1975 by Indira Gandhi’s government. He accused the Nehru-Gandhi family of repeatedly challenging the Constitution, emphasizing the resilience of the Indian people in upholding constitutional values.

“Highs and lows have occurred in our journey, but the people of this nation have stood firmly by the Constitution. I do not wish to indulge in personal criticism, but facts must be presented before the country,” said the Prime Minister.

The opposition, however, termed the speech as ordinary and laced with political attacks. Akhilesh Yadav, leader of Samajwadi Party, referred to it as a collection of “11 jumlas” and accused the BJP of hypocrisy on the issue of dynastic politics. “Those who criticize dynasties have a party full of dynastic leaders. The truth is that reservation for SCs, STs, OBCs, and Dalits has been diluted. A caste census is the need of the hour to ensure fair representation,” Yadav asserted.

Congress MP KC Venugopal alleged that the BJP government is working under corporate interests and said, “The PM’s speech was a blame game against Congress. Their government is concentrated to serve the interests of Adani and create monopoly. While we are discussing Constitution, they disrespect it. Today, when the speech of the Leader of Opposition is going on, Prime Minister, Home Minister, Defence Minister were absent.”

Other opposition leaders shared similar views. Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad was disappointed and said the speech did not focus on what has been achieved since the adoption of the Constitution. “We expected a speech on achievements and future steps, but it became a blame game, which is not of any help to anyone,” Prasad said.

Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy termed the speech combative but inattentive to core issues. “The PM spoke against dynasties but did not respond to questions on riots or crimes against women. He only said what he wanted, ignoring critical concerns,” Roy noted.

The debate was marked by stark political divisions, with the BJP defending its narrative and the opposition accusing the government of diverting attention from pressing issues.
