Vaishali, Bihar: It has emerged that in Vaishali district of Bihar, a government school’s Principal Suresh Sahni has been caught on camera while stealing eggs assigned for Mid-Day Meal. The video, which later went viral on social networking sites, shows Principal Suresh Sahni taking eggs in a carry bag as the delivery van with supplies had arrived on 13 December.
The footage has created an outrage all over the country, and the education department has taken immediate action. A show-cause notice has been issued to Principal Sahni, demanding that he give an explanation within 24 hours. In case of no response, disciplinary action will be taken against him.
District Education Officer Birendra Narayan said the development had been confirmed. “The principal has been asked to provide a written explanation. Further disciplinary action will be initiated based on his reply,” he stated.
The incident has also shocked the local villagers and students who are said to have reprimanded the principal in private not to repeat such action again. The Mid-Day Meal scheme, which has been a very important programme meant to provide nutritious meals to school-going children, has been criticized for failure to implement it properly. This incident has further battered public confidence.
Official figures had claimed that strict measures would be undertaken to address the problem and prevent such an issue in the future.
