Prayagraj Sangam Station To Be Closed Temporarily During Mahakumbh 2025 Amid Heavy Rush

Railway authorities have decided to close the Prayagraj Sangam station temporarily to handle the huge rush of devotees during the ongoing Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj. Train operations will continue as usual, but the station will remain out of bounds for the public till then.

The decision to close the station comes in response to the swelling number of pilgrims arriving at the Triveni Sangam for the holy dip, which continues to be a significant attraction during the event. To ensure a smoother experience for both passengers and commuters, increased deployment of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel has been implemented at all railway stations across Prayagraj.

One-Way Plan and Safety Measures

To facilitate the safe movement of pilgrims, the Prayagraj Railway has introduced a one-way entry and exit plan at the Prayagraj Junction station. According to Amit Singh, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Railway Division, the special measures are aimed at ensuring safe and efficient travel for the thousands of visitors to the region.

Under the new system, entry to Prayagraj Junction will be from the city side only through Platform No. 1. Passage of passengers to the exit on the Civil Lines side will also be routed only through Platforms No. 6 and 10. This would be similar to the arrangements taken during the bathing festivals of Maha Kumbh.

To further streamline the process, a color-coded ticketing system has been implemented. Passengers will be assigned specific shelters based on their destination stations. These shelters are equipped with essential facilities, including temporary ticket counters, rest areas, and toilets, providing comfort to pilgrims during their wait.

Reserved tickets holders will be allowed to enter through Gate No. 5. The rest of the pilgrims will have to follow the respective route and shelter allocation to ensure an orderly flow.

The Prayagraj Railway has also urged all pilgrims to arrive well in advance of their scheduled train departures, as the increased crowd size could lead to longer wait times. Travelers are advised to follow the designated entry and exit routes, and adhere to all safety protocols to ensure smooth and safe travel.

The Maha Kumbh is considered to be the largest religious congregation on earth, which continues to attract more and more devotees. With over 420 million pilgrims having already taken the sacred dip in the Triveni Sangam, the holy event shows no signs of slowing down. Even after the major Amrit Snans, the number of devotees arriving continues to rise each day, making effective crowd management crucial for the safety and convenience of all.

With these special arrangements in place, railway authorities are hopeful that they can successfully accommodate the growing number of pilgrims while ensuring a safe and smooth journey throughout the Mahakumbh 2025.
