
Prayagraj, February 2025 – The Prayagraj Maha Kumbh 2025, the global largest religious festival, is not just a manifestation of devotion but also a massive economic force. As per the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), the grand spiritual extravaganza is expected to produce an estimated business of more than ₹3 lakh crore during its 45-day duration, becoming one of India’s largest economic events.
The festival, which is taking place in Prayagraj between January 13 and February 26, is recording an unprecedented count of pilgrims. While the initial projections accounted for 40 crore visitors and ₹2 lakh crore business, the current figures have reached a whopping 60 crore attendees and a ₹3 lakh crore economic turnover.

CAIT Secretary General and Chandni Chowk MP Shri Praveen Khandelwal emphasized the deep connection between faith and economy, highlighting that this sacred event has provided a major boost to Uttar Pradesh’s economy. The festival is driving large-scale economic activities across multiple sectors, including:
- Hospitality & Accommodation – Hotels, guesthouses, and rental accommodations are witnessing full occupancy, with increased demand leading to significant revenue growth.
- Food & Beverage Industry – Restaurants, street stalls, and local eateries are witnessing a hike in sales, serving millions of pilgrims on a daily basis.
- Transport & Logistics – Airlines, railways, road transport, and logistics businesses are reaping the benefits from the large pilgrim traffic.
- Religious Attire, Puja Samagri, and Handicrafts – Religious clothing, prayer materials, and local handicrafts are witnessing a boom in sales.
- Textiles, Apparel, and Consumer Goods – Pilgrim influx has increased the sale of traditional as well as modern clothing, souvenirs, and festival goods.
- Healthcare & Wellness Services – Hospitals, wellness centers, and Ayurvedic services have extended their service to meet the requirements of the devotees.
- Religious Offerings and Ceremonial Items – Sales of flowers, incense, and other religious offerings have increased manifold.
- Media, Advertising & Entertainment – Businesses are using the Maha Kumbh’s huge viewership to promote brands via advertising and sponsorships.

The economic contribution of Maha Kumbh 2025 is not limited to Prayagraj only. Towns and cities within a radius of 150 km, such as Ayodhya, Varanasi, and other pilgrim places, have also witnessed a remarkable surge in trade and commerce. The pilgrim circuit has spurred greater arrivals in Ayodhya for Lord Ram’s darshan and Varanasi for Lord Shiva’s blessings, resulting in a dramatic increase in tourism earnings.
