Viral Video: A video capturing a young woman performing a sultry photoshoot and pole dancing on a Mumbai local train has started a scorching debate on social media. The young lady, dressed in what seemed like a school uniform, posed provocatively on the local train as it was packed. So much criticism and disbelief has trailed her pole dancing clips, which also started appearing at a railway station.
A video shared on the platform X-by the handle ‘@WokePandemic’-sarcastically captioned, “Thank you, Indian Railways, for having pole dancing in trains for the entertainment of passengers,” went viral and gained over 619,000 views soon after being made. Some people thought it was just a publicity stunt but others were outraged by the blatant public decency flouted and the misuse of public spaces.

The incident has caused widespread disapproval, with many netizens slamming the act as inappropriate. Comments on the post ranged from scathing critiques to sarcastic remarks about the state of modern values.
A commenter said, “Finally the shackles of patriarchy have been broken and modern Indian women have been freed to become what they always wanted to become…the sluttiest sluts of the world.” Another comment was sarcastically made saying, “Great initiative to attract more passengers to use public transport. It will help in decreasing air pollution. Political parties should include this facility in their manifesto.”
Self-respect and morality were also among the criticisms. “They have no respect for themselves. They just wanna objectify themselves for money,” said one user, while another joked, “Wow! What nice Samskaras she has… only thing is that she is wearing too many clothes.”
The footage, even while initially touted as ‘entertainment value’, raised questions about the morality of shooting such a video in public spaces, particularly on crowded public transport like the Mumbai local train, which is like a lifeline for millions of commuters. “Is there a better way to encourage the use of public transportation? I think not,” wrote one user sarcastically, underlining the growing trend of seeking social media fame at the cost of public decorum.
The incident raises questions about the lengths individuals are willing to go for social media attention. With the growing trend of creating viral content, public spaces have increasingly become stages for stunts that often disregard the sentiments and comfort of others.
To date, neither Indian Railways nor local authorities have commented on the incident. Nevertheless, the video has revived a debate about enforcing stricter rules in public places to prevent such events.
Where social media serves as the focal point for creativity and expression, the incident described above accentuates the fine line between freedom of expression and public nuisance. For now, this video continues to gain attention and serves as an example of the cost of pursuing fame by any means necessary.
