Ahmedabad, August 26, 2025 – In a historic moment for the Indian automobile industry, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off Maruti Suzuki’s first global electric vehicle, e-Vitara, from the company’s Hansalpur plant in Ahmedabad. This milestone not only marks Suzuki’s entry into the global electric vehicle space but also establishes India as a major manufacturing hub for battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

Made in India e-Vitara will be exported to over 100 countries
Made in India e-Vitara will be exported to over 100 countries, including highly competitive markets such as Europe and Japan. This milestone reflects India’s growing capability in advanced EV technology, design and sustainable mobility solutions.
Along with the EV launch, PM Modi also inaugurated the new lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility at Hansalpur. Set up in collaboration between Suzuki, Toshiba and Denso, the plant will boost the production of hybrid and electric vehicle batteries, further boosting India’s electric vehicle ecosystem.
PM Modi’s vision to make India a global electric vehicle hub
Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister emphasised India’s role in shaping the future of mobility. “On August 26, at around 10:30 am, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the local production of hybrid battery electrodes at Hansalpur, Ahmedabad and flag off the export of battery electric vehicles to 100 countries,” the Prime Minister’s Office had earlier said.
This initiative is in line with the government’s long-term vision to make India a global hub for sustainable and green mobility, spur innovation, create jobs and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
