PM Modi and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella meet on Monday to set out a vision for the future of India’s technology and artificial intelligence sector. The high-level meeting centered around opportunities where AI can drive the Indian tech landscape forward and looked at ways the Indian government and Microsoft can collaborate to ensure the country remains at the forefront of the AI revolution.
CEO Satya Nadella took to X (formerly Twitter) after the meeting to thank the Prime Minister for his leadership and vision for India’s tech future. “Thank you, PM @narendramodi ji for your leadership. Excited to build on our commitment to making India AI-first and work together on our continued expansion in the country to ensure every Indian benefits from this AI platform shift,” Nadella wrote, alongside a photograph from their interaction.

Then, Prime Minister Modi also answered on X and stated the importance of the discussion and interest in Microsoft’s plans for India. “It was indeed a delight to meet you, @satyanadella! Glad to know about Microsoft’s ambitious expansion and investment plans in India. It was also wonderful discussing various aspects of tech, innovation, and AI in our meeting, ” Modi shared.
This will reinforce the growing connection between Microsoft and India, showing the company is indeed committed to furthering the development of AI-based solutions within the country. The company is boosting its investment in India to stimulate innovation and technology-led growth.
Microsoft’s engagement in India is nothing new. It has been contributing immensely to the country’s tech ecosystem, particularly from Hyderabad where it has had its presence for a long time. It is now one of the city’s most important places for the operation of Microsoft with the firm expanding its staff base to 10,000 people and also spending heavily on major infrastructural development like a 600 MW data center capacity in the state.
This is part of the larger strategy by Microsoft to increase its presence in India. In December 2024, Telangana Chief Minister K. Revanth Reddy and his Cabinet Ministers, including D. Sridhar Babu and Uttam Kumar Reddy, also met with Nadella to discuss ongoing investments and potential future collaborations in the tech sector. The discussions centered on Microsoft’s impact on Hyderabad’s thriving technology landscape.
The chief minister said the company continued investing in the region with positive implications on the city’s economy. He thanked Nadella for this by saying, “Thank you, Mr. Nadella, for the continued growth and commitment to our city and state,” with an appreciation towards Microsoft for all the support and contribution toward the local economy.
The recent meetings point out the rising significance of collaboration between AI and tech in India and global companies, with Prime Minister Modi once again reiterating the country’s goal to become an AI-first country. Both parties are committed to the utilization of innovation and technology to benefit India’s vast population and contribute to the country’s economic and technological transformation.
