The Government of India has rolled out PAN 2.0, with the initiative approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. What Is PAN 2.0?
PAN 2.0 is an initiative of the Income Tax Department, ITD towards e-Governance for reengineering processes related to registration of taxpayers. The project integrates three existing platforms-the e-filing portal, the UTIITSL portal, and the Protean e-Gov portal into a single system. Why Is PAN 2.0 Important?
The current PAN system is fragmented and operates across various portals for different services. With more than 78 crore PANs and 73.28 lakh TANs in the database, it will significantly benefit users while making the access process more efficient when consolidated into a single platform.
PAN 2.0 introduces a paperless system, reducing the need for documentation on paper and an easier, more accessible processes. This modernizes as part of the government’s vision for Digital India, where all PAN and TAN-related services are streamlined and available online.
**Who Needs to Change Their PAN?
The existing PAN cardholders are not required to apply for a new PAN under PAN 2.0. The new platform will enable them to enhance the prospects of updating, correcting, and linking Aadhaar with the PAN. The new applicants will now get their PAN cards in a more efficient and quick process.
- Integrated One-stop Shop: Consolidation of three platforms grants access to all PAN services.
- Totally Paperless: All processes, from application to validation, are digital.
- Seamless Aadhaar-PAN Linkage: The Aadhaar and PAN linkage process will henceforth become straightforward and comply with all the requirements for this purpose.
