New Delhi: Amid the escalating political storm over alleged “vote theft,” opposition parties are reportedly considering bringing an impeachment motion against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar during the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament, sources revealed.

The speculation gained momentum after Congress Rajya Sabha MP Syed Naseer Hussain hinted that his party is prepared to use every democratic tool available, including the possibility of an impeachment motion.
Key Highlights:

- Congress MP Syed Naseer Hussain says “all democratic tools” are on the table.
- Rahul Gandhi accused ECI of “vote theft,” sparking a political clash.
- CEC Gyanesh Kumar dismissed allegations as baseless and demanded proof or apology.
- The monsoon session of Parliament could see a high-voltage showdown.
Congress Signals Tough Stand
Speaking to ANI, Hussain said,
“If there is a need, we will use all weapons of democracy under the rules. We have not had any discussions (about impeachment) as of now, but if needed, we can do anything.”
Although no formal proposal has yet been tabled, the remark indicates that the Congress and INDIA bloc may step up their confrontation with the Election Commission of India (ECI) amid growing opposition charges of electoral malpractice.
CEC Gyanesh Kumar Rejects Allegations
The controversy intensified after Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, accused the Election Commission of bias and alleged “vote theft” in recent elections.
Responding sharply at a press conference in New Delhi, CEC Gyanesh Kumar dismissed the claims as baseless and said the accusations were nothing less than an “insult to the Constitution.”
He went further to demand that Rahul Gandhi either provide documentary proof in the form of a signed affidavit or issue a public apology.
“An affidavit will have to be given or an apology should be made to the country. There is no third option. If the affidavit is not received within seven days, it means all the allegations are baseless,” Kumar declared.
A Looming Confrontation in Parliament
The impeachment of a Chief Election Commissioner is an extraordinary move that requires a special majority in Parliament and has rarely been attempted in Indian political history. If the opposition decides to pursue it, the monsoon session could witness heated debates and unprecedented confrontation between the government and opposition benches.
For now, opposition leaders are weighing their options, while the Election Commission stands firm on defending its credibility. With both sides unwilling to back down, the issue is set to dominate the political discourse in the days ahead.
