Noida Phase-2 Workers Protest Turns Violent Over Salary Hike Demand

Tension spread across Noida Phase 2 after a protest by industrial workers demanding higher salaries turned violent. A large number of employees gathered in the area to raise their demand for better wages, but the situation soon went out of control. During the protest, some workers allegedly started pelting stones, damaging vehicles, and setting a few vehicles on fire. The incident created panic in the industrial area and forced authorities to deploy a heavy police force to control the situation.

The protest started when workers from an industrial unit assembled to demand a salary increase. According to the employees, their current in-hand salary is between ₹10,000 and ₹11,000, which they say is not enough to manage daily expenses. Workers claim that despite working long hours, sometimes up to 16 hours a day, they are not receiving fair wages or proper benefits. They are demanding that their monthly in-hand salary should be increased to at least ₹20,000.

As the crowd grew larger, tensions began to rise. Videos from the scene showed protesters throwing stones and damaging property. Some vehicles parked in the area were also set on fire. Police officers quickly arrived at the spot and started efforts to bring the situation under control. Personnel from the Provincial Armed Constabulary were also deployed to manage the crowd and prevent further violence.

Thousands of workers were seen on the roads, which led to major traffic disruptions in the surrounding areas of Noida. Authorities had to divert traffic from several routes as the main roads remained blocked due to the protest. Commuters faced heavy delays while police worked to restore normal movement.

Senior police officials reached the location and tried to talk to the protesting workers. Officials appealed to them to maintain peace and resolve their issues through dialogue instead of violence. The administration has assured that workers’ concerns are being taken seriously and discussions with industrial units are already underway.

Meanwhile, the district administration in Gautam Buddh Nagar recently announced several measures aimed at improving the working conditions of labourers. District Magistrate Medha Rupam said that industrial units will have to strictly follow labour laws and ensure fair treatment of workers.

Under the new guidelines, workers will receive double payment for overtime work. Weekly holidays will be mandatory, and if employees are required to work on Sundays, they must be paid double wages. The administration has also directed companies to ensure that bonus payments are transferred to workers’ bank accounts by November 30. In addition, salaries must be paid by the 10th of every month and workers must be given proper salary slips.

Officials say the administration is closely monitoring the situation and efforts are being made to prevent further unrest. While the situation remains tense, authorities believe dialogue with workers and strict enforcement of labour rules will help restore normalcy in the industrial area.
