According to the Gautam Budh Nagar police public relation officer, Bhati was being taken for a health check-up around 1:30 pm when he suddenly tried to escape. The police immediately chased him and he was shot in the leg when he ignored repeated warnings and was then taken back into custody.

The case that has shocked Noida

Bhati, a resident of Sirsa village in the Kasna police station area, was arrested on Saturday after disturbing videos were circulated on social media. The video showed him and another woman brutally assaulting his wife Nikki, dragging her by her hair and subjecting her to inhuman torture.

In another horrifying video, Nikki was seen severely burnt and trying to get down the stairs but suddenly collapsed. She was rushed to Fortis Hospital and later referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, but she died on Thursday night.

Sister alleges ₹36 lakh dowry demand

Nikki’s elder sister Kanchan, who is married into the same family, made a video of the horrific attack. Speaking to reporters, she alleged that her sister was tortured and killed over ₹36 lakh dowry demand.

“We were beaten and tortured for several days. They demanded ₹36 lakh. They attacked her with acid, slashed her neck and head, and finally set her on fire in front of her child,” Kanchan said, her voice shaking with anger and grief.

She further claimed that when she tried to intervene, she was also beaten and rendered unconscious. Kanchan accused Bhati’s family of wanting to get Nikki out of the way so that Vipin could remarry.

Police investigation and FIR

Additional DCP Sudhir Kumar confirmed that the police were informed from Fortis Hospital after Nikki suffered burn injuries. However, she died before the police team could reach Safdarjung Hospital.

Following Kanchan’s complaint, a case has been registered at the Kasna police station against Vipin Bhati and his family under sections related to murder, dowry harassment and domestic violence.

Noida dowry death case: Marriage turns tragic

Nikki was married to Vipin in 2016 and they have a young son. After the post-mortem, her family cremated her. The brutal murder has reignited discussions about the alarming rise in dowry-related crimes in Uttar Pradesh and across India.

The police have assured that strict action will be taken and more arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
