The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday entered a new phase of leadership as Nitin Nabin was formally declared the party’s national president, becoming the youngest person ever to hold the post. At just 45, Nabin now assumes charge of the world’s largest political party, signaling a clear generational transition at the top.

His elevation comes at a crucial time, as the BJP prepares for upcoming electoral challenges and seeks to strengthen its organisational machinery nationwide.
Historic Moment at BJP Headquarters
The announcement was made at a ceremony held at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, where K Laxman, the party’s Returning Officer, officially declared the results of the organisational elections and handed over the certificate of election to Nabin.
The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, outgoing BJP president J P Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and several senior leaders and party workers.
Their presence underscored the importance of the leadership transition and reflected the party’s collective endorsement of Nabin’s elevation.
A President Born the Year BJP Was Founded
Nitin Nabin becomes the 12th national president of the BJP, a party founded in 1980, the same year he was born — a coincidence that has drawn attention across political circles.
Known for his low-profile and unassuming style, Nabin has steadily risen through the ranks, building a reputation as an organisationally strong leader rather than a mass campaigner.
Before taking on his new role, he resigned from his ministerial responsibilities in the Bihar government, where he handled key portfolios including Law and Justice, Urban Development, and Housing. His resignation followed his appointment as the BJP’s working president on December 14, a move widely seen as a precursor to his elevation.
Leadership Beyond Dynasty, Says BJP
While announcing the election results, K Laxman highlighted the BJP’s internal culture and ideological framework.
“This election shows that in the BJP, leadership rises from hard work and dedication, not from dynastic privilege,” Laxman said.
Outgoing president J P Nadda described the moment as historic and expressed confidence in the party’s future under Nabin’s leadership.
“Today, our young, energetic, and talented Nitin Nabin is taking charge as the national president of the world’s largest political party. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to him on my behalf and on behalf of crores of workers,” Nadda said.
A Generational Shift Ahead of Key Electoral Battles
Political observers view Nabin’s appointment as a strategic generational shift, aimed at energising the party’s cadre and aligning leadership with a younger demographic.
As BJP looks to consolidate its dominance while navigating complex political landscapes, Nabin’s organisational experience and administrative background are expected to play a critical role in shaping the party’s future roadmap.
