Narendra Modi Vist Kuwait: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Kuwait on a historic two-day visit, the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Gulf nation in 43 years. Invited by Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of Kuwait, this visit will aim to strengthen the longstanding ties between the two countries and expand cooperation across political, trade, investment, energy, cultural, and people-to-people domains.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to meet the top leadership of Kuwait, including the Emir, Crown Prince, and Prime Minister. The discussions will be on how to further strengthen existing partnerships and find new avenues for cooperation. According to Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (CPV and OIA) Arun Kumar Chatterjee, this visit is a landmark in bilateral relations and an entry point to deepen cooperation in the future.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will also witness the opening ceremony of the 26th Arabian Gulf Cup, wherein he has been requested to be a special guest of the Emir of Kuwait. During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will also address Indian expatriates during ‘Hala Modi’, an Indian community event at the Sheikh Saad Al Abdullah Sports Complex. Speaking enthusiastically, he said on X that a visit would help to strengthen historical linkages between India and Kuwait and improve relationships with leadership. A ceremonial guard of honor will be paid at the Bayan Palace, where Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will have separate meetings with the Emir and the Crown Prince Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah. The delegation-level talks thereafter will discuss key areas of mutual interest.
The welfare of Indian workers in Kuwait is also a priority during this visit. Prime Minister Modi’s planned interaction with Indian workers at a labour camp underscores the government’s commitment to the well-being of its citizens abroad. Arun Kumar Chatterjee highlighted that over one million Indians reside in Kuwait, contributing significantly to the local economy, and the visit aims to acknowledge their role and address their concerns.
The visit is expected to help consolidate the existing bonds of friendship while opening up new vistas of cooperation between India and Kuwait. It will further add strength to India’s engagements with the Gulf Cooperation Council, adding momentum to partnerships in both energy and trade. The significance of this visit can become a new chapter in the bilateral relations that reinforce shared values for a stronger partnership in years to come.
